Features to get ahead
Cross-rival bets — what to build next to stay in front of the field.
This is the single most-repeated gap (5 of 7 rivals) and it is the target buyer's literal daily reality — a truck in a dead zone. It fuses EDSI's two real moats: truck-first offline plus date-ranged, one-invoice-per-owner split billing that rivals' simpler percentage-charge models cannot produce offline or on. It extends already-shipped code (service-worker shell, fieldDayCache, outbox, durable-auth), so it is a build-out of proven pieces rather than greenfield, and it adds zero Brad-time per field day — it passes the 20-customers test cleanly.

'My bookkeeper lives in QuickBooks' is the most common accounting objection, and QBO/Xero sync is the headline integration for five rivals while EDSI offers only CSV export. A contained, one-way push neutralizes that objection without inheriting ThoroVet's trap of forcing customers to buy and reconcile a second billing system. It is a medium, well-bounded build that materially raises credibility in front of a distribution partner like Sunderhaus, where looking unfinished costs the most.

Every serious rival has a portal and EDSI has none (only pay-links) — but a generic, small-animal-first portal handles date-ranged fractional ownership poorly. A portal engineered for percentage split billing turns EDSI's strongest moat into the one category rivals currently win. It also removes office/Brad time by letting owners self-serve balances and payments, strengthening rather than weakening the 20-customers position.

Lab integration is the most tangible advantage nearly every rival advertises, and EDSI's only answer today is CSV export. An email/CSV ingest inbox delivers the same clinical payoff — bloodwork lands in the record — without on-prem middleware, and is a credible first foothold on the integration board rivals tout. It neutralizes Impromed's single loudest differentiator while preserving the cloud + offline + split-billing moat they cannot match.

Health/travel certificates are table-stakes for horses that travel, and rivals only reach them through a GlobalVetLink add-on. Making them a native, truck-first, offline-capable feature closes EDSI's biggest equine-specific integration gap and turns a competitor's paid add-on into an EDSI native capability. It is the most on-brand bet for the one project where the industry IS the product, and it plays directly to the offline strength no cloud rival can follow into a barn.

An ambient clinical scribe is the flagship of Shepherd (TranscribeAI), StableTrack and others, but theirs require a live connection. Doing it offline-first beats them on the one axis they cannot follow (dead zones) and fuses the medical record with the penny-exact multi-owner invoice from a single capture, which their lighter billing engines cannot match. It has the highest ceiling but is the most speculative build (equine-term transcription accuracy) and depends on the Feature 1 offline foundation, so sequence it last — on the existing AI infra and BYO per-practice keys, with the escalate-never-invent guardrail intact.
Counters: Shepherd, StableTrack, Cassadol Equine, ThoroVet
